The Knot Book of Wedding Flowers (Hardcover)
Amazon.com
For every bride (and her mother), The Knot Book of Wedding
Flowers provides an invaluable and inspirational guide for planning
a perfect storybook event--be it a private family affair or an
all-out bash in a hotel ballroom. Author Carley Roney, editor-in-chief
of The Knot online wedding planning site, which has branched out
to offer this and other books (like The Knot's Complete Guide
to Weddings in the Real World), provides extensive information,
friendly advice, and helpful tips for brides of every budget.
Special features of the book include beautifully illustrated glossaries
of a wide variety of common wedding flowers as well as surveys
of the various shapes and styles of bouquets, centerpieces, guest
favors, and boutonnieres. How-to sections help the bride decide
on her floral style and palette--deep red or purple flowers are
popular modern choices, and of course all-white weddings remain
perennially popular. Do-it-yourself instructions, clearly illustrated,
help brides create their own flower decorations. And even brides
with very deep pockets will appreciate the guide to choosing a
florist, as well as the timeline planner and sample worksheets
at the back of the book. Throughout, 150 glorious color photos
seem practically fragrant. --Judy Fireman

a wedding. From the ceremony arrangements to the posies for the
bridesmaids, this comprehensive resource guides the happy couple
through every aspect of floral decoration.
Review: Very thorough and inspiring
I loved this book. It's great for anyone who likes flowers, even
after you plan your wedding. I don't know what people are complaining
about in the other reviews--this book walks you through FIFTY
of the most commonly selected flowers for weddings! How many more
do you need? Most flower shops probably don't carry more than
that throughout the year. There are beautiful pictures and descriptions,
and the rest of the book is very thorough with info on how to
choose the different floral elements of your wedding.
Review: Wedding Flower Woes
This book had beautiful pictures of many different flowers. The
section with a description and picture of each flower was great.
I was disappointed that it didn't have many pictures of arrangements
for a church. Of course, most books and wedding websites don't.
If you are looking for centerpiece and bouquet ideas, this is
the book for you. But if you need ideas for arrangements for a
church ceremony, this isn't where to find them.
Review: Beautiful flowers
There werent enough flower choices, but the ones that were shown
were beautiful, and I really enjoyed choosing which flowers I
wanted. This book gave me a good idea of what to expect and look
for in flowers, and I really appreciated the fact that the meanings
of the flowers was included in it. (I even got my fiance to look
at it) :0 Great Book!
Review: Wonderful book and great photos
- a must buy!
This book not only helped me select my wedding flowers, but I've
lent it to two brides-to-be and got rave reviews. I even used
it as a guide in creating bride and bridesmaid bouquets for my
friend's recent wedding (I have to admit that I did have a bit
of additional experience prior!). The book goes through each flower
alphabetically and tells you when each is in season and their
meanings. It also guides its reader by explaining each type of
bouquet by shape and includes step by step instructions on how
to create a centerpiece, bouquet and boutineer. I highly recommend
this book to any bride or amateur floral designer.
Excellent Book!
Someone gave me a copy of this book, so I didn't have to buy it,
but the price on Amazon seems fair. The book is great and very
helpful. I got it for my sister's commitment ceremony. This is
a great purchase. Flowers are sometimes overwhelming, I think
this book does a great job on teaching you and giving you some
terrific ideas!

Bouquets : A Year of Flowers for the Bride (Hardcover)
Book Description
The bridal bouquet is a tradition in almost every culture
on Earth. Year after year, millions of women walk down the aisle,
each carrying a personalized blend of carefully selected, artfully
assembled flowers. To ensure that one's bridal bouquet lives forever

book introduces 40 original arrangements to complement the wedding
gown, celebrate a special theme, honor a treasured family custom-and
keep shaky hands occupied.

and diversity of flowers in creations from the simple to the elaborate:
daises with ivy for the June bride; a mid-summer bundle of fragrant

beads and tiny seashells for a wedding by the sea to an Asian

are gorgeously photographed Each one is accompanied by step-by-step
directions for wiring and taping, choosing flowers, leaves and
ribbons, grooming the flowers, and making handles.
An integral part of the wedding, flowers provide
beauty, perfume, and color. They help define the theme of the
event. Bridal bouquets live forever in the wedding photographs
and in the memories of all those who share in the day. "Bouquets"
will help every bride-to-be, mother, sister, and friend recreate
these bouquets or will inspire the florist to fashion that perfect
handful of flowers the bride carries down the aisle. Here is the
ideal engagement or shower gift for any prospective bride.
Review: An excellent how-to book for beautiful bouquets!
This is the book to get if you want to make fresh wedding bouquets
for a wedding. Especially helpful are the detailed materials list
for each bouquet project, plus an estimate of how far in advance
the bouquet can safely be made. Each project features flowers
that are in-season for the time of year stated in the book, and
styles range from the traditional to the unique and unusual. There
is something here for every taste! I highly recommend this book!
Review: Stunning arrangements, but
not for beginners,
I bought this book together with "Creative Wedding Florals
You Can Make" to get ideas for the flowers for my wedding
in June. I am making my own bouquets and arrangements. As a gardener,
I know a lot about flowers, but I have never tried anything like
this before. The arrangements in this book are creative and absolutely
beautiful, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking
for creative ideas to give to a florist, or to someone who has
experience in putting together floral arrangements. However, if
you have never done floral design before, I would suggest that
you buy another book along with this one (such as "Creative
Wedding Florals") to supplement the how-to information in
this book.
The bouquets are arranged according to season, but many can be
used throughout the spring and summer. They include mixtures of
garden flowers, roses, lilies, herbs, and hydrangeas, and the
pictures are absolutely gorgeous. There are also instructions
and ideas on how to make corsages and boutonnieres that complement
the bouquets, which I found very helpful.
All in all, this is an excellent resource book for
ideas, but it is a bit weak on the instructions.
Review: Inspirational
This book is truly beautiful and will inspire anyone to instantly
plan a dinner party, a tea, a wedding or shower(actually, any
kind of gathering!) in order to put all the wonderful ideas to
use. There are so many creative and innovative suggestions for
setting a table and it made me look at things I already own in
new ways. I also appreciated the suggestions for borrowing from
friends and family or purchasing inexpensive pieces to make my
old presentations look fresh and new.
It is so hard to pick a favorite from among all
those shown - but the Day of the Dead celebration and the white
summer wedding are spectacular. The children's birthday in the
park will give mothers some great suggestions for a unique party
- including menu and recipes.
This book will continue to inspire me for years
to come.
Review: Beautiful Photos, Great Ideas
I was looking for a unique yet elegant bouquet for my wedding,
and I found it in this book. I loved the beautiful photography
and the seasonal ideas. It was nice to see something different
from the huge, over-the-top arrangements you find in bridal magazines.
I made a color copy of my dream bouquet from this book, and my
florist recreated it for me. I would recommend this book for both
florists and brides alike!

Wedding Flowers (Hardcover)
Book Description
Wedding Flowers taps into the desire of every bride
to make her wedding day special. The choice of flower color, fragrance,
and display is one of the most effective and fun ways to do so.
Wedding Flowers will give the bride the confidence and ability
to design her own floral theme and work with a florist to execute
it, or perhaps even undertake some of the arrangements herself
for a truly personal touch. The book explores wedding traditions
as well as making suggestions for how a modern bride can depart
from them. It addresses every type of seasonal concern; distinguishes
decorative, ceremony, and reception flowers; provides great ideas
for floral accessories; and, of course, devotes a lot of consideration
to the all-important matter of the bridal bouquet. With step-by-step
instructions throughout, the book demonstrates how brides, bridesmaids,
friends, and family can make some of Paula's most popular wedding
flower arrangements themselves.
About the Author
Paula Pryke has over fifteen years of experience at creating
beautiful weddings. Her work is featured regularly in all the
leading magazines. Wedding Flowers builds on the success of her
five previous titles: Simple Flowers; Festive Flowers; Flowers,
Flowers; Flair with Flowers; and Living Color. She works as a
floral consultant and has her own school for floral arrangement
and design in London. Always a trendsetter, Paula Pryke continues
to innovate with this latest title.
Review: Wedding Flowers
Paula Pryke Wedding Flowers is a wonderful book. The bouquets
are absolutely beautiful and inspiring. She provides excellent
directions. Festive Flowers by Pryke is another great book.
Review: For the bridezilla who wants a whole book
on hiring someone
It's a lovely book on choosing wedding flowers, but like all products
from the Bridal-Industrial Complex, it's more about giving you
a complex than giving you a wedding. Paula Pryke comes up with
some beautiful arrangements, and she gives you lots of wonderful
information about the history and meaning of flowers, what flowers
are in season, and how to go about choosing flowers. That said,
she is, as is unsurprising for a professional florist, utterly
convinced that decorating a wedding is something for hired professionals
to do. She says in the intro that you should, at the very least,
hire someone to do the bridal bouquet, the implication being that
if you do not, you will suffer ignominious failure. This is especially
frustrating, since many of the bouquets she showcases for the
bride are simple, classic, one-type-of-flower affairs, of purple
calla lilies or roses making a wonderful impression, simply gathered
in a ribbon. There is a lot of great information, but not much
practical how-to. And much of what's good in the book (the seasonal
suggestions) you could get from merely speaking to a competent
florist, which is what she encourages you to do anyway. Save your
money, or at the least, only buy this used. It's better as a coffee
table book than as a resource.

Creative Wedding Florals You Can Make
(Paperback)
Review: Helpful for Beginners
When my daughter took her ideas for her wedding to our local florists,
the estimates were over $3,000. When we finished laughing, we
bought this book. Even though we had very little previous experience
with florals, with a little practice we were able to make quite
a few of the things she wanted ourselves. And perhaps more importantly,
we were also able to determine what we couldn't do ourselves,
and how best to work with a professional florist.
We didn't use any of the designs from the book, but the clear
photographs and step-by-step instructions made it well worth the
price for the skill development it gave us.
Review: Useful but Sort of Typical
(aka Traditional)
I found this book useful but typical - tradional wedding flowers
with little bits of baby's breath. Some people like the traditional
wedding styles. I like something more modern or Asian. Indeed
this book has good instructions - although I always recommend
building a prototype before you are put on the spot to make the
real thing (I prefer using silk in this stage). If you want a
more traditional wedding floral book, this is a good one. If you
want unique pizazz then I suggest you try Florist's Review - it's
my fave.
Review: an excellent resource
This book provides an excellent overview of wedding florals and
a number of pretty ideas if you need them -- this is a book for
you if you really want to do your own flowers -- not if you want
ideas for spectacular or unique florals for a florist to do. the
instructions are very understandable and easy to execute, for
all the wedding basics: bouquet, boutinnieres, corsages, basic
arrangements.
Review: Bridal Floral Basics for
the Do-It-Yourself-er in You
Let's say you're a prospective bride like me or you know someone
who is. You want beautiful basic floral arrangements, but a florist
seems like a fortune. Well, if you are like me or you know know
someone who is, then this book's for you. Different floral arrangements
for the bride, the wedding party, and extras such as unity candles,
centerpieces and pew arrangements, are all included here. Sure,
they're not super-creative in style, but YOU can be...
Review: Good Instructions, Weak on
Creativity
This is not the book to buy if you are looking for new and creative
floral ideas for your wedding - you will be greatly disappointed.
There are examples of each main different type of bouquet, such
as nosegay, cascade, hand-tied, etc., but the "variations"
shown for each type aren't anything to write home about. Look
for another book if you are hoping to find something stellar and
original that will stand out at your wedding.
On the other hand, if you plan to arrange your own flowers like
I do, the instructions are very well laid out with good detail
and clear pictures....
Review" Excellent how-to information,
but not too creative
The title of this book would lead one to believe that it gives
how-to information for new, fresh, creative bouquets and arrangements.
While the instructions are thorough and clearly written, the arrangements
themselves are more traditional and "floristy" -- they
use a lot of filler, and I think some of them look rather overdone.
The strength of this book is in the instructions. They are laid
out step by step, with photographs of how to construct each arrangement.
The book tells you exactly which tools you will need and how many
flowers to buy. Even a beginner like myself would be able to create
pretty good bouquets and arrangements with these directions.
I bought this book together with "Bouquets:
A Year of Flowers for the Bride," which does have more creative
ideas, but is weak on the instructional part. I recommend this
combination of books to anyone like myself who is looking to make
their own wedding flowers, but does not have experience in floral
design. Both books have their weaknesses, but they complement
each other and make up for each other.
Review: Good Basic, Traditional Design,
How-To Book
From a bride who started by taking 2 years of design classes and
creating her own bridal flowers to now a flourishing wedding floral
business owner who creates custom wedding arrangements for brides
all across the country, this book helped me get started. I review
and purchase a lot of floral reference books for my design business,
and when I started out, this was one of the better books I found
on basic, traditional styles. The book is particularly helpful
for the beginning designer as the clear photos and detailed, how-to
steps are easy to follow. My only suggestion for improvement is
to expand the book (or publish a second book) that lists advanced
techniques and more contemporary, unique designs and florals/materials
for the bride who desires something more unusual and creative.
It's limited in the creativity it offers, but overall, it's one
of the best BASIC books to reference and LEARN from. Good for
beginners and floral students.

More about Calla Lilly Flowers:
From Wikipedia.
Zantedeschia is a genus of seven species of flowering plants in
the family Araceae, native to southern Africa from South Africa
north to Malawi. Common names include arum lily and calla lily,
the latter confusing as it is also the scientific name of the
related genus Calla.
They are rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plants
growing to 1-2.5 m tall with leaves 15-45 cm long. The flowers
are prodiced in a spadix, with a large, brightly coloured bract
surrounding the inflorescence.
Species
Zantedeschia aethiopica - giant white arum lily or common arum
lily
Zantedeschia odorata
Zantedeschia albomaculata - spotted arum lily
Zantedeschia elliottiana - yellow or golden arum lily
Zantedeschia jucunda
Zantedeschia pentlandii
Zantedeschia rehmannii - pink arum lily
All species are endemic to Southern Africa. Z. aethiopica grows
naturally in marshy areas and only deciduous when water becomes
scarce. It grows continuously when watered and fed continuously
and can survive periods of minor frosts. Z. aethiopica is a very
strong and sturdy plant, being able to grow in many soils and
habitats, multiplying by rhizome-offsets; it is naturalised and
regarded as a weed throughout the world. Z. odorata is a rare
species, resembling Z. aethiopica, but deciduous and smelling
like freesia, endemic to a few localities in South Africa. Z.
albomaculata is a widespread and variable species, growing from
South Africa up to Kenia, varying in shades of white to cream
and pink to orange-shades. Z. elliotiana is known from horticultural
sources only and is probably of hybrid origin. Z. jucunda and
Z. pentlandii are rare species with beautiful large yellow showy
flowers. Z. rehmannii is a pink-flowered species with sword shaped
leaves.
All zantedeschias produce large, showy flowers spathes
and are often grown both as ornamental plants and for cut flowers.
They are hardy only to USDA plant hardiness zone 9-10; in colder
zones, they are grown as tender bulbs or houseplants.
The so-called white calla is derived from Z. aethiopica.
All varieties with flowers with shades of yellow, orange, red,
purple are mainly derived from Z. albomaculata, Z. pentlandii
and Z. rehmanni.
From Something Olde to Something New: A Bride's Guide
to Something Unique : Creative Ways to Personalize Your Wedding
Celebration (Paperback)
From Independent Publisher
The most important thing a bride needs (after the groom) is the
reassurance that her day will be something special and unique.
This concise guide offers solutions to the multiple needs of planning
the wedding, with imaginative interpretations of the traditional
and ideas for creating a truly personal event. A section is devoted
to an examination of old wedding traditions from around the world
that could be adapted in a variety of ways. The final section
deals with the planning, the timing of everything from mailing
invitations to the bride's hair appointment. This precise scheduling
advice is most welcome and along with the checklists and the etiquette
guide should help lessen, if not avoid those last minute jitters.
There are almost as many wedding guides as there are brides, but
for the price this one serves as well as most. One could only
wish that the list of "Royals to Research" did not read
more like one of dysfunctional pairings!
